Manor House

THE BRIEF

The owners of this exceptional Manor House knew that the current kitchen layout didn’t suit their day to day living, having engaged with us on previous projects they knew we would look at not only functionality but also the design aesthetic .

“The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sensitivity to the character of the building were truly exceptional.”

HOW WE HELPED

The project involved the sensitive redesign of a period kitchen within a 16th-century manor house, with the aim of improving spatial functionality while preserving the building’s historical integrity. The existing layout was reconfigured to better utilise the generous proportions of the room, incorporating a dedicated dining area to enhance everyday usability and entertaining potential.

Sofas were relocated to the adjacent snug room, allowing for a more purposeful kitchen environment. Walk-in pantries were introduced on either side of the AGA, providing discreet yet ample storage that complements the heritage aesthetic. To retain authenticity, wide oak floorboards were carefully sourced to match the age and character of the original 16th-century structure.

A contemporary reeded island was designed as a central focal point, offering a subtle modern contrast within the traditional context, and delivering both practical workspace and visual interest. The result is a harmonious blend of period charm and modern function, tailored to the lifestyle and architectural setting of the manor house.

“This was our fourth project with them, and once again, they exceeded our expectations. The brief was particularly challenging this time designing a completely custom kitchen for our 16th-century manor house yet they managed to balance historical integrity with modern functionality perfectly.”

“The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sensitivity to the character of the building were truly exceptional. We couldn’t be happier with the result and look forward to working with them again in the future.”
