THE BRIEF

Lived in by the owners for over 30 years, the layout of this stunning eclectic property no longer fulfilled their requirements, especially the growing needs of their family, and was crying out for a more usable, sociable space.

With alterations on the layout in full swing we were asked to design a space that could incorporate cooking, dining and a cosy area for relaxation while also providing clever storage solutions.

HOW WE HELPED

We met with the owners to better understand the property and how the design would need to take into account the fact that the room had been built into a sandstone wall. This meant that the shape of the room tapered and therefore required an island design that would fit seamlessly into the area.

The island was designed to mirror the tapering and this became the main feature of the room, with the outer kitchen cabinetry providing the storage and design solutions that our clients were looking for. The clever Franke sink with a full work station preparation area, the Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers and the Quooker tap were all incorporated into the island, the snug area provided alcove seating and drawers and shelves for countless books, the integrated wine cabinet included a drinks cabinet above it, and we built triple cupboards for coat and shoe storage, all with cupboards above which could be easily accessed with the oak rail and ladder.
